Amgen is seeking a hardworking Senior Associate Information Systems (IS) Software Engineer to build industry-leading forward-looking scientific applications with modern technology stacks that will be used by our clinical development partners to drive Amgen's innovation in the drug development lifecycle. The outstanding candidate will join our Development IS team to deliver solutions by demonstrating standard methodologies in Agile and DevOps methodologies.

The Clinical Design and Analysis team supports the Center for Design and Analysis (CfDA), globally with innovative IS and Data Science solutions to accelerate and grow Amgen's pipeline of biopharmaceuticals.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Build systems to enable end to end solutions in support of Drug development activities to discover lead drug candidates
  • Evaluate and utilize ground breaking technologies in the industry to meet scientific business needs
  • Review functional and technical designs to identify areas of risk and/or missing requirements
  • Provide technical write-ups and drawings to promote the proposed solutions
  • Expertise with translating business requirements to technical requirements and recommend solutions
  • Data analysis and reporting experience by bringing to bear analytics, visualization and database technologies (Oracle, MongoDB SQL, Spotfire, SAS, Python, Spark)
  • Collaborate with the other engineering team members to ensure all services are reliable, scalable, maintainable, and well-integrated into existing platforms
  • Adhere to standard methodologies for testing and crafting reusable code
  • Ensure effective communication between development business area management, technical staff and vendors to analyze CfDA needs and implement analytical solutions in data acquisition, transformation, integration and analysis

Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree


Bachelor's degree and 2 years of information systems experience


Associate's degree and 6 years of information systems experience


High school diploma/GED and 8 years of Information systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong learning agility, ability to pick up new technologies used to support early drug discovery data analysis needs.
  • Good experience working with agile methodology & DevOps (Jenkins, JIRA, Github) frameworks with successful experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Experience working with container technologies (eg, Docker) and developing microservices
  • Hands-on experience working with technologies like Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Oozie, Map Reduce, Spark, Sqoop, Kafka, Flume, etc.
  • Experience building and deploying infrastructure with cloud deployment technologies like ansible, chef, puppet, etc.
  • Hands-on platform builder with significant experience in developing scalable data platforms
  • Experience with monitoring technologies like Lambda, Nagios, Ganglia, etc.
  • Experience with modern programming languages like Java, Python, Spark, R, etc.
  • Experience in Cloud (AWS, databricks platforms) & HPC (high-performance computing) environments
  • Experience with building APIs and services using REST, SOAP, etc.
  • Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
  • Capable of delivering on multiple competing priorities with little supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
